How do I use my Dinghy activity status feature?

Learn how to select your activity status and tailor covers for you.

1. 'Working'

If you bought your policy while you were working, your Dinghy insurance will be set to Working. All the insurance covers you bought are are turned on and running 24/7 when your activity status is set to ‘Working’


2. ‘Taking time Out'

If you take a break from working. Maybe it's half-term? You’re moving house so you need a week off? Or fancy a staycation to get yourself sorted? Either way, you can change your activity status to ‘Taking Time Out'.

Basically - if you’re not working then you don't want to be paying for full Professional Indemnity cover. So that's been turned down (to “lite” mode), this saves you money but keeps you fully insured for all the work you've done in the past. Just remember that if you’re tempted to start working while you’re on time out you won’t be insured unless you use the green toggle to switch your Professional Indemnity insurance back on. If you try to do this, you’ll find that we will require you to change your activity status back to 'Working' mode if this is the case so that you’re fully protected.

While you're taking time out, so long as you’re not popping in to visit clients and do any work, you can give your Public Liability premium a rest as well, so that’s switched down also.

Equipment cover is still on, as most people are concerned that it may be stolen at any time. But unless you’re still holding client data, your cyber cover can be turned off. (Option only relevant to Beazley policyholders)

These can be switched on or off in the Insurance Details section using the green toggles in your Insurance Details below to suit you.


3. 'Looking for work'

You’ve come to the end of a contract. You’ve deleted all your clients data from your laptops and hard-drives and you’re now out and about, meeting people and your activity status is set to 'Looking for work'.

As you’re not actively working for a client, your Professional Indemnity is switched down (to “lite” mode), to save you money, yet keep you fully insured for all the work you've done in the past. It is important to keep your insurance in lite mode, as if you cancelled your insurance you would lose all your cover for any mistakes in the work you've just completed.

And as most people no longer have any client data to worry about, your cyber cover is switched off. (Option only relevant to Beazley policyholders)

However, as you may still be meeting potential clients, or sitting in co-working spaces your public liability has been left on; and of course you should still insure your business equipment as you still need that day-to-day so that’s on too. 

These can be switched on or off in the Insurance Details section using the green toggles to suit you.


3. 'On holiday'

Finally that moment has arrived - you switch on your email out-of-office, tell your clients you’ve gone on holiday, and before you close your laptop change your Dinghy activity status to ‘On Holiday’.

Your Professional Indemnity will be switched down (to “lite” mode), so you stay fully insured for all the work you’ve done, but save money while you’re away and not working. Just remember that if you’re tempted to start working while you’re on holiday you won’t be insured unless you return your activity status to 'Working'. You’ll be prompted to do this if you try to turn your Professional Indemnity back on full. 

While you’re away, so long as you’re not popping in to visit clients and do any work, you can give your Public Liability premium a rest, so that’s switched down also.

Your Business Equipment and Cyber Liability (option only relevant to Beazley policyholders) cover is active as most people, even if they leave their business equipment at home, are concerned that their equipment may be stolen while they are away. And hackers work 24/7; whether you are on holiday or not.

All these can be switched on or off in your Insurance Details section using the green toggles to suit you.
